Eli and I just spent the past three days at one of the outreach houses. So far our weekdays had consisted of doing PE, and teaching English and Bible lessons for different classes. But this weekend was a bit different than our usual activities. Friday after school all the teams left AHFW (A Heart for Wisdom) School and we travelled to various houses scattered around the village to stay there until Monday morning. Most of the teams went East, but Eli and I headed West.

The house we went to was one of the AHFW’s middle school students. This house was like a 15min drive, so Kit drove us out there in his truck. We got to the gate of the house at about 5 and walked in the house. The first thing I noticed was the smell of farm animals and the second thing I noticed was about 50 chickens and ducks and two cows in their yard. The son and the fathered welcomed us, and then our weekend began.

After our stay we had taught about 5 teachings between the 2 of us over the 3 days. We did not expect to teach as much as we did, but we did partly because in this part of the province, there was another Christian school that the family was close to. So we both shared at school, I shared at youth group, and we both taught a bible lesson to the kids.

The majority of our stay consisted of living like young Cambodian boys: we went crab hunting, berry collecting, and explored the farm lands. The sun was beating down, and we sweated like crazy. It was such a treasured experience for us both, seeing how differently Cambodian villagers live compared to Southern Californians (where Eli is from) or the Japanese (where I’m from). Overall, we formed great relationships, shared the gospel, taught the Scriptures, and greatest of all, God was glorified.
