After two weeks of serving at the school in bible and English classes, our scenery shifted when we headed out to the village for a house visit. I had the privilege and absolute honor of staying with a student from A Heart For Wisdom school, Kimleng, and her family. They welcomed us in with so much love and hospitality, and generously fed us all of their favorite meals to make. At the end of the first night, Kait and I got the opportunity to worship with the mom and daughter while the rest of the family went to bed. We sat and prayed, read the word, and worshiped God together. This was a moment where I was overcome by thankfulness, and Jesus was reminding me of the beauty of the global church. We come from such different backgrounds and circumstances, yet we sat together and praised the name of the same Living God. Despite physical sickness, uncomfortable circumstances, and language barriers, God still bonded us together in Christ.
After our weekend visit, we came up on the beginning of our third week here in Cambodia, and the smaller outreach team that I am leading got to start our village outreaches. We do two outreaches every day for 5 days, and incredible barely sums up how they have been so far. We all went into the first outreach with different expectations and hopes, but God exceeded them all. We are getting to preach the gospel to kids and adults in the villages, play games, fellowship, and see people one by one decide to give their lives to Jesus. God is doing an incredible work here in Cambodia, and it’s only just the beginning. We are praying that God would continue to raise up leaders in the churches here, that the churches and pastors would be strengthened to do the ministry set before them, and that the people of Cambodia would see the face of Jesus, lay down their lives to follow him wholeheartedly, and raise up the next generation of young believers in spirit and in truth.
The Lord is so good, and continues to reveal more of His heart for the lost and the broken to me. He is opening my eyes to how little we need in this life to be filled with joy and contentment, something western Christianity has greatly forgotten about. It’s not about things, or money, or name, or title, how big or small the ministry is, but about deep commitment and devotion to the gospel. It’s about Christ and His bride.
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and the rest will be added unto you”
